Gore Scores: The Library Music Sounds of Herschell Gordon Lewis!

UPGRADED: 28/10/2017 – Many tracks re-recorded from cleaner vinyl LP’sGore Scores

“What are you doing with that axe?”

I could keep tinkering.  I could search through another pile of records but jeez after a while all that ‘chase jazz’ starts sounding the same and making my head spin.  I’ll post it up now, as is…

64 rare library music tracks; hard to find tracks from the original vinyl LP’s.

Part I:

Tracks 01-19: Color Me Blood Red

The third of the Blood trilogy, Color Me Blood Red tells the story of Adam and Evil.  Artist Adam is frustrated at his lack of inspiration until his girlfriend stands on a nail and he finds just the right shade of red.

‘Holy Bananas, it’s a girls leg!’

A solemn timpani, fast ‘Spider Man’ action cues and some sleazy jazz that sounds straight out of a Russ Meyer movie.

indexTracks 20-33: A Taste of Blood

Herschell’s Dracula story runs at an epic 2 hours.  It also has the man himself having a go at a ‘Blimey Guv,nor’ cockerney accent.  More small orchestra dramatics than HGL’s usual offerings but that’s a good thing in my book.

Part II:

Tracks 34-50: The Gruesome Twosome

Now you’re talking… Right, Napoleon?

I love The Gruesome Twosome.  I remember first watching it and delighting in the Honey Chil’ Styrofoam Heads intro to the impromptu sleepover go-go dancing.  An all round winner for me and the music delivers too.  Part II livens up with more pop n cheese starting with the great harpsichord opening, through some 60’s jerk pop, great (melo)dramatics for the scalping murders mixed with some nice dramatics.

Right Napoleon?

Here’s the story of Mrs Pringle and her Wig Shop, the co-eds, Napoleon and Rodney who loves his new electric knife.  Makes his work so much easier.

Co-eds are being murdered and the Wig Shop’s got some lovely new ‘all human hair’ pieces in.   Could there be a link?  Could the ‘Room For Rent’ sign signify the end for another KFC munching go-go dancing co-ed?

Tracks 51-62: How To Make a Doll

This is probably my favourite section.  A lesser known film but a great soundtrack.   I love the opening hum-along ‘Pop Shop’, which really gets in your head.   Lively time capsule tracks aplenty here as 32 year old school teacher/ nerd Percy makes his very own girl using computers and maths and stuff.  Some of these tunes stayed in my head long after the stupid plot had drifted out.

Tracks 63-64: The Wizard of Gore

Tacked on the end are two extra tracks from the story of Montag who when he saws a person in half, he REALLY saws a person in half.  Is he real?  Are we real?  Have we been born yet?  What is reality anyway?  Existentialism meets ultra eye popping gore!
